Go to the Mailings tab of the ribbon and then in the Create section, click on Labels and then on Options and make sure that the Page printers radio button is checked and then from the Label Vendors drop down, select Avery US Letter and then scroll down to need the bottom of the Product Number list and you will find 8387 Postcards. Select it and then click on OK and then probably New Document to get a page that contains a 2 x 2 table with cells the dimensions of those labels. In Word, labels are just tables with fixed cell dimensions. Therefore, if you want more than one page, just press the tab key when in the last cell (of the table) on the page. Edit the postcard. Many postcard templates will be easy to edit with each picture and textbox as its own discrete object. Move objects to different areas of your postcard or delete them entirely. If you want to use a custom picture, right click a picture on the template and replace it. Change the text by clicking the textbox. Free postcard templates in favorite formats including Word, InDesign, Publisher and Corel Draw. Specially created to fit Avery 4 1/4' x 5 1/2' 4-up pre-perfed paper that is widely available. The back side of each card is blank which leaves plenty of space for additional messages, photos, coupons or whatever you would like to use the space for.
How do I print a double-sided postcard? I want to put a picture on one side and some lines on the other side to help keep the writing relatively straight. This isn't an advertising postcard where everything would be the same for multiple copies and then merged with a mailing list. These are thank-you notes I'm setting up for my daughter in which the side with the picture is a different picture for each card of her with the gift and the lines on the other side would be for her to hand-write a few sentences and then an address. The pictures would be different for each card, but the lined side would be the same for each card. I have Avery 8387 paper, MS Word 2008, an iMac desktop, and an HP OfficeJet 4655 printer. When I follow instructions I can find online about printing postcards to this sort of paper, all I seem to find are things that have me set up for mailings.
Word processing programs, overall, really do not lend themselves to projects of this nature. Not to say that it can't be done, but depending on how many cards are needed it would be rather involved. It also would require doing 2 print jobs rather than a single Two-Sided job.
In general terms, one approach would be: The Avery template is available from Tools> Labels - Options. Basically, it provides a Table consisting of 4 cells (4 cards per page). That single page is followed by a blank page. You'd then have to copy the Table, right-click that 2nd page & choose Paste by Appending Table.

Repeat for each additional sheet required. The next step would be to Insert an image into the first cell. Format the image to include the Picture Placeholder property, then copy it to each additional cell. You then can open a Finder window next to the document window & navigate to where the pictures are located (hopefully they're all in the same folder). Drag each picture to one of the Placeholders to replace the picture originally used. When completed do the first print job. For the Lined side, generate a new document from the same template, but there's no need to replicate the labels to additional pages.
Id suggest setting Tabs with Line leaders in the first cell. [Note that in order to tab within a table cell you need to use the Option key along with the Tab key.] Copy the content of that cell then paste to each of the other 3 cells. Flip the printed pages & reinsert them into the printer tray, then print the lined document. Set the number of copies to match the number of picture pages.
